Opera Garnier, Facade Loggia

In addition to the mosaic ceiling in the Avant Foyer, Salviati also made five mosaic roundels of smiling or frowning grotesque masks for the ceiling of the opera's facade loggia.

Villa Montebello

A Madame Tardiveau commissioned Salviati to make mosaics representing maritime emblems for the exterior decoration of the villa. Located just a block from the English Channel in Normandy, the former summer residence of the Marquise of Montebello was built in 1865-66 in the Second Empire style by architect Jean-Louis Celinski.

Now housing the Musee de Trouville, the organization's collection coincidentally also contains a Salviati mosaic portrait representing Titian. Salviati's records show that a mosaic of Titian was ordered by a Mr. Apetzeguia of Paris. Julio Jose, the Marquis de Apezteguia of Cuba studied in Paris before 1879 and he may have commissioned the mosaic.

Salviati exhibited a mosaic portrait of Titian - perhaps this one - at the fall 1884 meeting of the Architectural Association in London.

Holy Trinity Cannes

The original church was built in 1884, the same year that Queen Victoria's son Prince Leopold died in Cannes. The original church stood until 1970, when it had become too deteriorated and the large piece of land on which it stood became too valuable. That year, it was pulled down and rebuilt on the original corner of the lot, with the unconsecrated land used for new apartment buildings.

The Salviati mosaic reredos of The Last Supper can be found in the new church displayed on a side wall.

Villa Thenard, Antibes

French chemist Baron Louis-Jaques Thenard built this villa before his death in 1857. Russian Grand Dukes Nikolai and Peter Nikolaevich Romanoff (cousins of the last tsar) moved into the villa with their wives on May 1, 1919. The exiled brothers would both die here in 1929 and 1931, respectively.

Today, the property is known as Chateau Algarve and it is available as a luxury vacation rental.

Salviati mosaic decorations adorned the villa including a frieze and portraits of various men. The status of these mosaics is unknown, although it is possible that they were removed or lost during past renovations.

Cercle de Aix-Les-Bains

Parisian architect Abel Boudier designed the Grand Casino for Victor Emmanuel II and it opened in 1850. It was substantially expanded over the years and it was even used as a hospital during World War I.

 

Salviati decorated the vaulted ceiling of the dome of the South Hall with 300 sq meters of mosaics in 1882-83 after cartoons by Charles Lameire.

Amongst the designs are the twelve symbols of the zodiac, the four seasons, two angels, flora and other stylized motifs.

In 1936, architect Charles Siclis whitewashed much of the interior decoration; however, after a fire in 1963 and further remodeling in the 1980's, the casino has been restored to its former glory.

Musee Cernuschi

Two portrait medallion decorate the facade of the former Cernuschi Palace in Paris, which today is an Asian art museum.

By 1893, the Salviati mosaics of Aristotle and Da Vinci were already installed above the front entrance.
